Well, thanks to movies like Avatar, 3D seems to have hit its stride. All of the major manufacturers are on board and rolling out 3D tvs and Blu-Ray as this is being written. There is a lot of iinformation as well as mis-information and hopefully this FAQ will help a bit.

1) What is 3D TV?

A display technology that allows home viewing of stereoscopic images. All 2D televsions display height and width, but 3D TV adds the illusion of depth to the image.

2) How do I watch 3D TV?

All of the new 3D technologies from the Major manufacturers such as Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, etc. require an HDTV with 3D technology and a pair of stereoscopic glasses.

3) Will I have to get new equipment?

In the short term, yes, and probably from here out. The reason is that in order to display 3D, your television must be able to accept a 120Hz signal. True, there are some TVs now that even boast 240Hz processing, but this is not the same. Currently, all TV broadcasts and non-3D Blu-Ray players are only capable of outputting a maximum of 60Hz.. Your TV may take that signal and increase it to 240Hz, but it is still just a 60Hz signal.

4) Will I have to wear glasses to see it?

Yes. Although some manufacturers are promising 3D without stereoscopic glasses, they will be necessary for quite some time.

5) Should I buy a 3D TV?

If you are an "early adopter" or simply a big fan of 3D, then sure. Just be prepared for there be very little content for the first couple of years.

6) I have heard that not everyone can see stereoscopic images. Will I be able to see it?

Most likely. Only 5-10% of Americans suffer from something called stereo blindness. For more info visit the College of Optometrists in Vision Development.

7) How much more will a 3D TV cost than a 2D TV?

About $200-$400 more, depending on the size. 3D tvs will probably not be smaller than 46".

8) If I shell out the big $ for a new 3D rig now, can I still watch 2D content?

Yes. All 3D tvs will be capable of displaying 2D content.
